On September 14, 2009 Heavy rains began to fall in southeastern United States. Some areas were reported as having over 20 inches of rain. A week later Georgia suffered massive flooding due to the Chattahoochee River going well above flood stage. This flood caused 9 deaths, and lef thousands of people homeless. Almost a month after the storms hit there is still much work to be done and many people who need their neighbors to reach out and help them in their greatest time of need. We currently have local volunteers as well as volunteers from Katrina's Angels parntering with us to help those in need. We are cleaning out houses and working to get everything dried out. This week has made it difficult as the state has continued to recieve large amounts of rain including six inches in some area Monday night. If you would like to send a donation to help cover cost for fuel and purchase supplies to help out and stimulate the local economy you can send a check to NATL PO Box 41 Marshalltown, IA 50158 or click on the donate button and use your paypal or credit card. These people are in need. If you can help with your money or your time it would be greatly appreciated.

Throughout the month of August the state of New York recieved much rain. There have been many towns in the western part of the state who suffered from severe flooding. We have chainsaw crews, cleaning crews and cooking crews responding as all other organizations have pulled out. We will be keeping you updated as we respond! If you are interested in making a financial donation to help with this effort click the donate button. You an also follow our progress on twitter by clicking here. We will also keep our photo page as well as our blog updated with what is going on and what help will be needed.

Greg has been partnered with Katrina's Angels since hurricane Katrina. He has worked with them to feed evacuees, relocate victims, and help those in need find work. They have worked together smaller areas of disaster. They help the smaller towns that don't get the help that they need because of their size. As always, Greg is very excited to partner with Katrina's Angels and exicted to provide aid to those in need that haven't been reached. NATL is very excited to partner with Katrina's Angels in our current deployment in New York and from there possibly respond to the Southeast.

Eldora, Iowa

Our most current deployment is Eldora, IA where a hail and windstorm damaged the entire town on August 9th, 2009. We had volunteers there Sunday night after the storm hit to begin making damage reports. We then responded Monday with water and more volunteers. Throughout the week we returned to help with clean up and debris removal. We were asked by the local emergency management to run the volunteer center the weekend after the storm so the city people could have a break. We coordinated over 220 volunteers throughout the week and weekend and offered aid to hundreds of families throughout the week.

Parkersburg, IA

In 2008, we spent much of the summer in Parkersburg, IA where the f5 tornado took out approximately 300 homes. We had approximately 300 volunteers throughout the summer helping with clean-up and rebuilding. There were many homes who did not have the help needed to build their homes and volunteers from California, Pennsylvania, South Dakota and Iowa came to help these families.

New Hartford, IA

In 2008, we spent the other part of the summer and fall in New Hartford, IA where the f5 tornado took out 88 homes and a week later a flood wiped out the entire town. We worked with about 175 volunteers that helped with clean up and rebuilding this town. Set up a food pantry in a local warehouse. Also coordinated the set up of a thrift store of donated goods and supplies for residents to have as they were rebuilding and putting their lives back together. We brought 100 trailer loads of supplies from around state to New Hartford. We also organized housing, food, supplies, and training for volunteers. Organized work projects for incoming work crews. Logged 60 to 100 miles on truck per week. Worked with local stores to get ice donated for 3 months.

Educating

In 2009, Greg also spent sometime giving presentations to schools, churches and other community organizations on disaster preparedness. He is working on booking more lectures throughout the United States.

Marshalltown, IA

During the winter of 2008 into 2009, we worked on a home in Marshalltown, IA that received flood damage last summer. We gutted and reframed much of the interior. We found $36,000 worth of materials and labor donated to help fix this home. After several months of volunteering, the project was passed on the homeowner’s church as we were called to other disasters.

On call, ready to respond

In 2009, we responded to some storms throughout the state of Iowa. We also were on call to respond to many disasters in Nebraska and Iowa. Greg responded to the hail storm in Postville, Iowa in August. Most storms in these areas however, had more crop damage than anything else and therefore response efforts were more emotional and spiritual support.
